“Whoa, it looks like I’m flying!”

What do you do on the last weekend of spring break? For starters, save the world. Then a delightful balloon ride with a darling friend sounds like the perfect way to spend the day. I loved how excited Alana and Miss Ruby were to do these impromptu art and photo shoots. We had such fun experimenting with this concept. Looking forward to what our imaginations come up with next.

Alana to the rescue!

“Remember when it snowed in the kitchen…”

A thrifted piece of fabric and paper snowflakes hung on the wall plus a $1.00 package of coffee filters makes for one happy 5th birthday girl!

Thank you to my talented Pop for snapping the above moments, giving the birthday girl’s Mama a chance to join the fun!

Who knew coffee filters cut into tiny squares would provide so much joy!

Oh the possibilities! If it doesn’t load, click on the image below to watch it snow.

Welcome to the Winter Woods

Turning five years old was never so much fun! In honor of my daughter’s big day, we celebrated in grand pixie style. One of her favorite characters is Periwinkle, a winter fairy from the new Tinker Bell movie, The Secret of the Wings. We transformed the inside of our little house to look like Periwinkle’s home, the Winter Woods. Here are the details of our magnificent Fairy Birthday Party:

This sign directed guests to our front door where a wintry wreath welcomed them.

Inside, guests could wear fairy wings and paint their own fairy houses.

I hung garlands of hearts from computer paper and circles from pages out of a thrifted 1967 music textbook…and of course, tinsel! I found the fairy images online, printed and cut them out, and then hung them from our fan using fishing line.

We ate delicious treats, which included fruit kabobs on snowflake skewers and vanilla cupcakes topped with brown sugar cream cheese frosting and iridescent sprinkles.

I made this glittery birthday banner from TP rolls, cut and glued in the shape of snowflakes.

For games, we had Pin the Periwinkle on Periwinkle, and Toss the Snowball into the Snowy Owl baskets hung from the ceiling.

In addition to the fairy wings and fairy houses, the guests could also take home “pixie dust” glitter and a packet of Periwinkle seeds to plant in the small terracotta pot that held both.

Here are a few more snowy decorations. The white peonies (also seen in one of the cupcake shots above) are made from coffee filters. Stay tuned for the next post to see more coffee filter wonderment!

We even had a few new fairy tenants move in a couple days before the celebration. The wonder in my daughter’s eyes when she discovered these little homes was priceless.

And lastly, a party isn’t a magical fairy party without happy lights!

On the Cover

Just excited to share the newest math textbook series from XYZ Textbooks, Concepts with Applications, which have my photographs on the covers and a few other KH shots inside. Three of the four books below were officially published last year, and we’re working on additional adoptions for the upcoming fall semester.
